President Trump tried to explain the lingering support for the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, by making an unflattering comparison with former President Obama.
During a listening session on health care Monday, Trump said about Obamacare, “The press is making it look so wonderful. So that if we ended it, everyone’s gonna say, ‘Oh, remember how great Obamacare used to be...It was so great.’”
He added, “It’s a little bit like President Obama. When he left, people liked him. When he was here, people didn’t like him so much.”
Trump also said that over the next few years, whether or not Republicans are able to repeal the law, “it’ll be imploded off the map.”
His comments were made hours before the Congressional Budget Office released its assessment of the House Republicans’ proposed bill to replace Obamacare.
According to CNN, the nonpartisan agency determined that "twenty-four million more Americans would be uninsured by 2026 under the House Republican health care bill than under Obamacare, including 14 million by next year."
