Former first lady Michelle Obama said at a women's conference on Thursday that Hillary Clinton was a better candidate than Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential election.
"The best qualified candidate in this last race was a woman," Obama noted at the Simmons Leadership Conference in Boston. "And she wasn't perfect, but she was way more perfect than many of the alternatives."
"We are here because a lot of people didn't vote. People sat out. People were hedging bets. Or women weren't comfortable voting for a woman, sadly," Obama also said. "To me, that's the deeper question for us today as women. What happened? What's going on inside us where we are still afraid to embrace a different vision of leadership."
However, she dismissed any speculation about her running for president in 2020.
"I've never had the passion for politics," Obama noted. "I just happened to be married to somebody who has the passion for politics, and he dragged me kicking and screaming into this arena."
