An avalanche struck the French Alps ski resort of Tignes on Monday, leaving at least four people dead and many more missing. The four men were away from the ski slopes when the avalanche buried them. The victims were a 49-year-old man, his 15-year-old son and 19-year-old brother-in-law, and a 59-year-old ski instructor, CNN reported. Officials initially reported that five more people were missing, but then asserted that there were likely to be many more victims.
