Somalia: Al Shabaab claims deadly hotel attack

A combined suicide bombing and gun attack at a hotel in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, has left a number of people dead and injured.
Police reports on the death toll vary, but it is believed at least 13 people were killed in and around the Dayah Hotel – a spot popular with politicians.

Several of those wounded are reportedly in a serious condition.
Al Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack. Its militants are said to have rammed a car bomb into the hotel gates, before storming the building and opening fire.
A second blast rocked the area shortly afterwards. Security officials say they have since secured the hotel.
