Tsunami warning passes after strong quake hits Papua New Guinea

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami threat in Papua New Guinea following a 7.9 magnitude tremor that struck the island. The United States Geological Survey initially measured the earthquake with a magnitude of 8, before slightly downgrading. The quake hit 29 miles off of the north coast of Bougainville Island with a depth of 96 miles. There were no initial reports of casualties or damage following the quake.
