President Obama will leave the White House in only days, and he does so with his highest approval ratings since his first year in office.
60% of participants in a new CNN/ORC poll indicated approval of the 44th president, and 25% expressed a belief that he is one of the United States’ greatest leaders.
Both figures put him in the upper tier of presidents in recent times.
While both Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton left office with higher approval ratings, 64% and 66% respectively, neither topped Obama’s numbers regarding success in historical terms.
11% of respondents regarded Reagan as one of the nation’s all time greats, and 10% said the same of Clinton.
A recent Washington Post/ABC News poll produced similar overall approval numbers, but offered a more expanded view of how Obama’s rating compares to those of previous presidents.
The 60% he earned in that survey puts him in the 4th position, still slightly behind Reagan and Clinton, but with Roosevelt in the top spot at 71%.
Both polls were conducted between January 12 and 15 and involved roughly 1,000 participants.
