The 2016 election didn’t turn out the way Democrats had hoped, but a new poll shows some already have ideas about who they’d like to see run for president in 2020.
A recent survey conducted by Public Policy Polling shows that 31% of respondents picked Joe Biden as their top choice.
Not far behind him at 26% is Bernie Sanders.
Elizabeth Warren received 16%, landing her in the 3rd spot.
The figures tighten up quite a bit when only the responses of white voters are tallied, with Biden receiving a preference rating of 27%, Sanders pulling in 26%, and Warren commanding 23%.
Greater disparity is evident among African-American respondents, who gave Biden 45% of their support.
21% went with Sanders and only 6% backed Warren.
Oddly, 77% of survey takers said they would like to see a Democratic candidate who is under 70, which disqualifies both Biden and Sanders.
41% indicated a preference for a presidential hopeful who has never run for the high office, again knocking out the two most preferred contenders.
The poll was conducted between December 6 and 7 and involved 400 people who cast votes in the recent Democratic primary.
