Apple wants to get into self-driving car race

An Apple official wrote that Apple is “invested” and “excited” about autonomous driving software in a recent letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The letter followed more than a year of industry speculation about the computer and iPhone maker's plans for expanding into transportation. In the letter, Apple explains that it uses machine learning in a variety of different aspects, including with transportation technology. "The company is investing heavily in the study of machine learning and automation, and is excited about the potential of automated systems in many areas, including transportation." Steve Kenner, Apple's director of product integrity said.
