CNN Screen Text 'If Jews Are People' Sparks Outrage

During the discussion about the alt-right, CNN aired text on the lower screen reading, “Alt-Right Founder Questions If Jews Are People.”

On Tuesday morning, CNN’s ‘The Lead With Jake Tapper’ aired a segment concerning the alt-right and how Donald Trump should deal with the group.
During the discussion between fill-in host Jim Sciutto and two political commentators, the network aired text on the lower screen, a feature known in the business as a chyron, reading, “Alt-Right Founder Questions If Jews Are People.”
Among the many appalled by the words was Jake Tapper who tweeted, “the chyron was abhorrent and I am trying to deal with it.”
Comments from other Twitter users included, “Hey @CNN. 1. You gotta call alt-right what it is - white supremacist. 2. Just b/c some idiot says it doesn't mean you put it on the chyron,” and, “I can confirm I am a person.”
Writing in Esquire, Sammy Nickalls pointed out that, in addition to being entirely offensive, the referenced quote by Richard Spencer of the National Policy Institute, who reportedly coined the phrase alt-right, was inaccurate.
Nickalls notes Spencer actually said, “One wonders if these people are people at all, or instead soulless golem," a reference to the media casting Trump in an unfavorable light.
