2-year-old Chinese boy gets impaled in the head with electric plug

GUANGZHOU, CHINA — A toddler in Guangzhou, China was almost killed after an accident led to his impalement by electrical plug.

On the night of Nov. 5, 2-year-old Xiao Tang was hanging out on a bed with his uncle when he slipped on one of the marbles they were playing with, reports Xinkuai Bao.

The boy fell, his head landing directly on the prongs of an electric plug on the floor.

His family rushed him to the hospital, where doctors said he needed emergency surgery, as each of the 2-centimeter long prongs were embedded into his skull, and had already damaged a blood vessel. If anyone had pulled the plug out, it’s possible Xiao Tang could have bled to death.

Doctors operated on the toddler for three hours. They cut into his skull and around the plug, eventually managing to remove it safely.

He is now recovering, and could be discharged from the hospital in two weeks.

The horrific injury is not expected to leave any long-term effects, though doctors say they will continue to monitor the boy’s condition.
