Conservative commentator Ann Coulter is facing backlash for a comment she made recently about the U.S. presidential election.
On November 7, she tweeted, “If only people with at least 4 grandparents born in America were voting, Trump would win in a 50-state landslide.”
The reaction has been strong, with a Washington Post column about her message titled, “Dear Ann Coulter: Just say you only want white people to vote.”
The piece points out that if her statement were applied, then Donald Trump himself would not be allowed to vote; it states, “His mother was born in Britain, his grandfather in Germany...”
The rule would also disenfranchise Trump’s children and his immigrant wife Melania.
USA Today reports that some have even compared Coulter's statement to Nazi race laws used to differentiate Jews from Germans.
In response to her post, some Twitter users have mentioned the word racist while others have joked that her rule would exclude everyone but Native Americans.
