For the first time in 100 years, The Columbus Dispatch has decided to support a Democratic nominee for president of the United States.
On Sunday, the editorial board of the newspaper issued an op-ed endorsing Hillary Clinton.
The column states, in part, “For us, the choice between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump is not pleasant, but it isn’t difficult. Republican candidate Donald Trump is unfit to be president of the United States. Democrat Hillary Clinton, despite her flaws, is well-equipped for the job.”
It further criticizes Trump, calling him “...a narcissistic, morally bankrupt candidate who is so clearly out of step with those [Republican] values.”
Meanwhile, the editors point out that Clinton has had ethical problems and wants to implement some unappealing liberal proposals, but she has also maintained a long public service career involving a strong understanding of foreign policy.
As such, the editors conclude the column by stating, “The stakes are too high to sit out this election and risk letting Trump misuse the awesome power of the presidency. The Dispatch urges voters to elect Hillary Clinton.”
The Columbus Dispatch’s last endorsement of a Democratic presidential nominee occurred in 1916 with Woodrow Wilson, notes WCMH.
