Officials said at least two people had died in the floods across Louisiana and other parts of the Gulf Coast.
Gov. John Bel Edwards declared a state of emergency as rescue workers in the southeastern part of the state braced for more rain.
The state's emergency management office called it a "historic flood event."
“This is an ongoing event.
We’re still in response mode,” Gov. Edwards said.
Rescue teams pulled more than 100 pets to safety as well, Edwards told reporters at a news briefing Saturday.
