American Airlines to fatten the pockets of 30,000 workers

American Airlines came to an agreement with 30,000 ground workers in a deal that union officials said would raise pay by 22 percent. The agreement between American Airlines (AAL) and the TWU-IAM Association covers 12 organized groups of workers. It will add $75 million to American's pre-tax costs in the third quarter and $120 million in the fourth quarter. Pay increases will go into effect immediately as negotiators pursue a finalized collective bargaining agreement for the association.
