Pre-monsoon floods hit normal life in Assam

Heavy rainfall triggered pre-monsoon floods in Assam, affecting lives of around 40,000 people. Tinsukia, Sonitpur, Sivasagar and Lakhimpur districts are among the worst affected areas. Units of Army and NDRF have been brought in the state to help the affected people. However, locals criticised the administration for not providing any relief. Locals were seen wading through knee-high water and using bamboo rafts to travel from one place to another. Though water level has decreased in some regions due to less rainfall in the last two days, areas like Sivasagar remained vulnerable.
