Little boy punches robber in attempt to foil GameStop hold-up

SILVER SPRING, MARYLAND — Police have released surveillance video of a boy attempting to stop an armed robery at a GameStop in Maryland.
The incident occurred on May 20, at the GameStop store located at 10100 Colesville Road in Silver Spring, just before 9 p.m.
According to police records, the boy and his parents were shopping for stuffed animals. The father, who has asked that the family not be identified, said he and his wife were shopping in a different part of the store than his son. The son was looking for a Yoshi toy while the parents shopped for a birthday gift for an upcoming party.
Two robbers entered the store wearing masks and carrying handguns. One robber ordered a customer, the parents and the 7-year-old boy to gather against a wall near the counter. But the boy, who was holding a stuffed Yoshi, wasn't haven't it and began punching the robber. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to deter him and was pulled and placed by the other customers.
The two robbers proceeded behind the counter and ordered the two clerks onto the floor. An undisclosed amount of cash and personal property was taken. The robbers fled out the front door.
Police described the robbers as black men in their 20s, both about 5 feet 6 inches tall and 170 pounds. They were wearing black hooded sweatshirts, black pants, gloves and masks.
No one was injured in the incident but the robbers are still at large. The store gave the boy the Yoshi, which his father said he carries around the house.
"We're proud that he is a strong, brave young boy," the father told "The Washington Post."
