Soldiers and police attempted to rescue surviving families from horrific landslides that rocked three villages near central Sri Lanka. By Wednesday evening, rescuers had pulled 17 bodies from the mud and debris unleashed by several days of heavy rain across the island nation, but the Sri Lankan Red Cross reports at least 220 families are still unaccounted for. Rescuers efforts were hindered by heavy fog and electrical outages.
