Ten militants blow themselves up assembling IEDs in Afghanistan

ANDAR DISTRICT, GHAZNI PROVINCE, AFGHANISTAN — At least 10 militants were killed when the IEDs they were assembling inside a mosque detonated prematurely.

The incident took place in the Andar district, Ghazni province, according to Khaama Press. It’s not clear if the dead militants were associated with the Taliban. However, officials note the Taliban and other insurgent groups often use improvised explosive devices to target government security forces.

This is not the first time militants have blown themselves up by accidents. In March 2014, at least seven militants died while making roadside bombs in Deh Yak district, Ghazni province, according to Khaama Press.

The interior ministry has condemned anti-government militant groups for using mosques for carrying out terrorist activities.
