Nneka is not purely a reggae artist, although Jamaican music is one of her principal influences and she has had the opportunity to open concerts for superstars like Sean Paul and Damian Marley/Nas (she toured the world with the latter as part of their show). She was born in 1980 to a Nigerian father and a German mother. Since starting out, hip hop has been her predominant musical influence, while African culture and issues affecting the continent are always present in her lyrics. Reggae is also present in her albums with "Africans" from her latest CD "Concrete Jungle" winning the reggae category of the Museke Online Africa Music Awards in 2010. She recorded "Viva Africa" in 2010 for the South African World Cup, while her latest album "Soul is Heavy", recorded in Nigeria, released last year.
