When BJP leaders Devendra Fadnavis, Eknath Khadse and Girish Mahajan were in the opposition, they had demanded either a judicial inquiry or an open anti-corruption bureau (ACB) probe into the massive cost escalation of irrigation projects. Now, Fadnavis is Maharashtra chief minister, Khadse revenue minister and Mahajan holds the water resources portfolio and the government has granted permission for a Rs 716.4 crore irrigation project on Painganga river against the original cost of Rs 91.7 crore, claiming opposition.
