COLUMBUS, SOUTH CAROLINA — Two masked gunman got a taste of their own medicine Friday evening when they tried to rob customers at a Columbus barber's shop.

According to the State newspaper, there were about 20 people inside the Next Up Barber Shop at around 7 p.m. when the two masked gunmen, one armed with a pistol and the other a shotgun entered the store on Fort Jackson Boulevard.

Once inside the gunmen pulled out their weapons and ordered everyone to get on the floor and handover their money, but what they didn't realize was that barber Elmurray Bookman and one of his customers were concealed carry permit holders.

As one of the gunmen turned his back to look for a wallet, the brave customer pulled his weapon out from underneath his barber's robe and opened fire. Upon hearing gunshots, the gunman with the rifle fled through the front door.

The other gunman was not so fortunate, he tried to flee through the back door, but was hit as he struggled with the handle. By this time, Bookman had also joined the party, firing several shots as he ran at the gunman, who then managed to run out the back door and down the street.

The injured gunman was later picked up by police and taken to hospital where he died from his injuries.

Police are still hunting for the second gunman and have asked anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-Crime-SC.
