Ex-Israel PM Olmert sentenced to year and a half in prison
  • 8 years ago
Israel's former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert was sentenced on Tuesday to 18 months in jail following his conviction for fraud and breach of trust in accepting envelopes of cash from US businessman Morris Talansky.
The Supreme Court partially accepted his appeal and sentences him to a year and a half in prison instead of the full six-year sentence.
Olmert, 69, has already been sentenced to six years after being found guilty in a massive real estate bribery scandal.
The prosecution demanded that the jail time in the cash envelopes affair be added to his six-year sentence, which he appealed.
In the recordings, Olmert is heard talking about the tens of thousands of dollars that he received from Talansky when he served as trade and industry minister in the early 2000s.
