Bolivia: Sea Access and Presidential Term Limits Make Headlines
  • 8 years ago
In September, the International Court of Justice in The Hague made headlines by agreeing to hear the century-old dispute between Chile and Bolivia over Bolivia’s access to the Pacific Ocean. While the Court’s decision was celebrated in Bolivia as a major victory, a final decision is a long way off. Another headline grabber in Bolivia has been the domestic battle to change the Constitution to end presidential term limits. Although the opposition accuses Morales of a power grab, Bolivia’s Legislative Assembly has approved the call for a national referendum. The government is now focusing on getting the referendum passed next February 21. Dimitri O’Donell reports from La Paz for teleSUR.
