According to a report by Reuters, a Chinese government spokesman claimed on Sunday that removing presidential term limits in the state constitution aims to protect the authority of the ruling Communist Party with President Xi Jinping at its center. Last Sunday, the party announced that it would remove the two-term limit, paving the way for Xi to remain in office indefinitely.
