Peru: Drug Traffickers Influence Domestic Policy

A new legislative study reveals that drug traffickers are influencing domestic politics in Peru in order to protect themselves from judicial prosecution. The study directed by progressive lawmaker Rosa Mavila shows that criminal groups want to fund electoral campaigns in order to buy influence. The study recommends immediately removing lawmakers under investigation and urges the financial investigative body to freeze suspects’ bank accounts. Mavila seeks to create another commission to investigate the infiltration of drug trafficking in armed forces. teleSUR
