El Salvador: Former President to Face Trial for Embezzlement
  • 8 years ago
A Salvadoran judge has sent former President Francisco Flores to prison to face trial on charges of money laundering and embezzlement. Flores is accused of appropriating US$15million in public funds donated by Taiwan for earthquake relief. Flores was president from 1999 to 2004. Prosecutors say Flores kept $5 million for himself and diverted the other $10 million via Costa Rica to an account of his right-wing Arena party. teleSUR
