Those who are familiar with the origin of Jamaican music know that Jazz was greatly influential in the birth of the classic ska played in the 70s by great bands like the Skatalites. The New York Ska Jazz Ensemble keeps the connection between jazz, ska and rocksteady alive, adding a massive dose of fun and dancing spirit!
On top of their own original hits they have paid tribute to their biggest inspirations by adding a ska/reggae twist to hits by some of the classic legends such as Thelonious Monk or John Coltrane. Freddie ‘Rockysteady’ Reiter. This band and their show are a major union of energy and style!
