Colombia: Paramilitary Violence Continues Unabated in Countryside

The latest unilateral ceasefire declared by the FARC rebels last July has drastically reduced violence in Colombia, yet paramilitary violence continues to spread. Rights groups say public prosecutors only investigate crimes attributed to the FARC and show no interest in those involving state power. They charge that the government lacks the political will to put an end to paramilitary violence. It is necessary to attack those who sponsor paramilitary groups politically and economically and benefit from their activities, says the Movement of Victims of State Crimes.
