Colombia: Right-Wing Wins in Bogota

Colombia held regional and local elections on Sunday to elect 32 state governors, members of regional assemblies, local council members and mayors. After 12 years of rule by the left in Bogota, the capital city will once again be governed by the center right. Enrique Peñaloza, the mayor of the city 15 years ago, garnered 33% of the vote, Rafael Pardo 28%, and left-wing candidate Clara Lopez 18%. Lopez recognized Peñaloza’s victory but accused the media of running a dirty campaign against her. Some analysts point to the victory of radical mayors as a positive factor in implementing the peace accords. teleSUR
