Venezuela: Right-Wing Plans for IMF ‘Adjustment’ Revealed

The President of Venezuela’s National Assembly Diosdado Cabello released a recording of a telephone conversation between the President of Empresas Polar Lorenzo Mendoza and Venezuelan economist Ricardo Haussman, who speak of the need for a fiscal adjustment plan for the country backed by a loan from the IMF and World Bank. Haussman, the director of the Harvard University Center for International Development, says that he has begun conversations with the IMF and that the Vice President for the Western Hemisphere is a good friend of his who is “very worried about Venezuela.”
