Chile: Mapuche Protesters Clash with Police

Protesters from the Mapuche indigenous community clashed with police in Santiago, Chile yesterday. The demonstration was held to mark October 12, the arrival of the Spanish conquerors in 1492 and their war of subjugation and extermination of the indigenous peoples of the Americas. The protest in Santiago was to demand the return of ancestral Mapuche lands and the freeing of the community's political prisoners. teleSUR
