NASA has recently released stunning images of a jet’s supersonic shock waves in front of the sun; the phenomenon was more easily captured thanks to advancements the agency has made to the photographic process used to show airflow.

Thanks to advancements in photographic technique, NASA has captured stunning images of the supersonic shock waves around a jet as it flies in front of the sun.
Typically, multiple waves surround the aircraft due to air pressure, but once the sound barrier is broken at more than 761 miles an hour, they unite into one system which causes a sonic boom.
