Drought Could Spur Further Central American Migration

Climate change is likely to cause more migration from Central America, says the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) on Monday. This year’s ‘El Niño’ will be even more severe than in past years. A worsened drought due to the phenomenon has already reduced crop output in several Central American countries for the second year in a row. The Central American Agricultural Council has had to declare a state of emergency. This, added to the poverty and lack of opportunities in the region is driving locals to seek a better life in other places. teleSUR
