Scientists describe their discovery of fossilized remains estimated to be more than 5.8 million years old that could belong to an ancient dolphin which lived in the salty Caribbean before the Isthmus of Panama arose.

A new species has been discovered that could help to inform scientists about the way animals adapt to rising ocean waters.

A recent study describes the fossil of a dolphin that was found off the coast of Panama and is thought to be 5.8 to 6.1 million years old.
