Prime Minister David Cameron won a shock victory today with a majority in the British general election.
In the days running up to the election Cameron's ruling Conservative Party were said to be neck and neck with the opposition Labour Party, with polls pointing to another hung parliament.
But in a shock twist, Cameron will hold office with a majority for the next five years, with no need to form a coalition.
As expected, the Labour Party was decimated in Scotland, losing all but one of its 41 Scottish seats to the Scottish National Party, who in turn won 56 of Scotland's 59 Westminster seats.
Ed Miliband resigned as the Labour leader after his party's disastrous electoral performance.
Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has resigned as leader of the Liberal Democrats after his party lost heavily, going from 57 seats to eight.
While, Nigel Farage, leader of the anti-immigration UK Independence Party, also resigned after failing to win in South Thanet.
Cameron is expected to meet the Queen later today, where he will request to form a government.
