Kamini(Shabana Azmi) tries to bribe Kumar Chandra Singh(Rajesh Khanna), to release robbers from jail, but being an honest police officer, he rejects the offer. Though, he himself becomes a suspect when apprehended with a suitcase containing some of the cash stolen from that bank. Kumar is stripped of his powers as a policeman, and is arrested. He faces trial in court, and is sent to prison as he is found guilty. His sudden arrest brings shock and disbelief to his mother who dies eventually.
Honest and dedicated Police Inspector, Kumar Chandra Singh (Rajesh Khanna) intercepts a bank robbery, and is in the process of arresting the bank robbers. The story takes turn when he himself becomes a suspect, after being apprehended with a suitcase containing some of the cash stolen from that bank. Kumar is stripped of his powers as a policeman and is arrested. He faces trial in court and is sent to prison after losing the case. Hearing about his arrest, his mother dies of shock and disbelief. After serving his term in jail, he is set to nab those culprits. In the chase, he faces an accident and gets crippled only to walk with the support of crutches. Now he has only one goal in life - to find those culprits responsible for his humiliation bringing him misfortune. For this he gets support from Shankar Dada along with the women -- Kamini, Sonia and Sunita, little knowing that one of these women was responsible for his arrest. Being victim of the same culprit; Kamini, Sonia and Sunita decide to help Kumar Chandra Singh, and they start searching for clues in their own ways. This leads Kumar Chandra Singh to trace down the main accussed and punish him for his deeds.
