Tibetans in Exile Celebrate Traditional Shoton Opera Festival

The north Indian city of Dharmsala is played host to a centuries-old Tibetan tradition called 'Shoton Festival', which literally translates as 'Yogurt Festival'. A collection of Tibetan opera troupes from India and further afield in Nepal performed Tibetan operas that are usually based on Buddhist scriptures and spread messages of love, peace and compassion. This year, the Dalai Lama was there to inaugurate the 20th incarnation of the festival. The Shoton Festival ended with a performance by The Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts on 5 April.
