21,000 Gallons of Crude Leak onto Refugio Beach Causing 4 Mile Long Oil Slick

Around 21,000 gallons of crude oil leaked from a ruptured pipeline in Goleta and flowed into the ocean near scenic Santa Barbara, creating a spill which stretched about four miles along Refugio Beach on the coast of southern California and extended about 150 feet into the water. The 24-inch diameter pipeline, which runs parallel to California’s famous Highway 101 and is owned by Plains All American Pipeline, was shut down and blocked to prevent more oil from spilling into the ocean.
