Louisiana teen arrested for 'shooting' classmates with mobile app

A Gray, Louisiana high school student was arrested last week using after using smartphone app Real Strike to simulate gunning down his classmates.
The unidentified H. L. Bourgeois High School student was allegedly the victim of bullying. After his arrest, he claimed he'd grown tired and frustrated at being picked on.
In what proved to be a foolish mistake, the 15-year-old opted to vent his frustrations in what no doubt initially seemed like a healthy manner: By pretending to gun down fellow students using augmented reality game Real Strike.
The popular app eschews the typical first-person shooter virtual battleground in favor of real life, allowing gamers to set their sights on real-life objects and people.
The game, which warns users to "not use real guns in the real world!!!," includes an export feature allowing users to post video evidence of their virtual rampage online.
Foolishly, the teen thought it'd be a good idea to take advantage of the feature and posted his own footage to YouTube. Where it was later discovered by a worried school parent who brought it to the attention of officials on Wednesday.
"You can't ignore it," Major Malcolm Wolfe told local reporters. "We don't know at what time that game becomes reality."
The boy, whose parents told investigators he had no access to real world weapons, said he had no intention of hurting anyone.
As of last Friday, he was being held at Terrebonne Parish Juvenile Detention center.
