Tiger mauls tamer at Madrid circus: SHOCKING VIDEO

A tiger has mauled its tamer at a Madrid performance. Danny Gottani, 35, of the Gottani Circus has performed since he was 18 years old. But all of those years of experience could hardly prepare him for the moment last Friday when a tiger leapt onto his back and tried to rip him apart in front of a live audience and his 60-year-old mother.

In the shocking video captured by a mobile-phone camera, the big cat can be seen leaping toward the tamer. The tiger attacks Gottani's throat, legs and back.

Gottani's fellow circus workers then enter the ring wielding large sticks, which they use to beat the tiger. Smoke from dry ice machines flood the arena to prevent audience members from witnessing the unfolding attack.

Gottani is a family-member performer of the Gottani Circus, which had set up in the Aluche neighborhood in Madrid. He was rushed to hospital but his injuries were not life-threatening.

The audience must have been shocked to see the performance go terribly awry. Among the audience members was Gottani's 60-year-old mother, who suffered a severe panic attack and required medical attention.

According to Spanish media reports, the tiger's attack on Gottani wasn't enough to cancel the evening's performances. After Gottani was removed from the ring, the show re-started shortly after.

What do you think about this video? Who was in the wrong: Tiger or tiger tamer? Leave your thoughts in the comments.
