A cement truck plowed into a three-story Bronx house, killing the driver and leaving five other others injured on Monday night (January 20).

The truck swerved off the ramp while it was exiting the Major Deegan Expressway at around 6:30 p.m., honking as it crashed into a home on 1970 Cedar Avenue.

A woman and her two children retreated to the back of the house after the impact. They remained trapped for some 20 minutes before firefighters helped them escape through the window of the house.

Firefighters found the driver dead when they arrived at the scene. His body was trapped in the cab of the truck.

Five people, including a firefighter, were injured. Two families, a total of four adults and two children, were left without a home.

The truck will not be removed until at least Tuesday morning, New York fire department officials said in a New York Times report. The facade of the damaged house collapsed during an attempt to extract the truck on Monday night.
