An armed suspect was beaten to death after he tried to rob a gas station on Thursday night.

Two male suspects rode up on a motorbike to the gas station located along Jalan Jambu Jerteh, Jinang around 9:40pm Thursday. After arriving, the pillion rider rushed into the gas station kiosk armed with a parang. The suspect stole money and cigarettes from the counter before running off.

A group of bystanders who witnessed the robbery then started to chase the suspect. After catching up to the man, they proceeded to beat him up.

The other suspect on the motorcycle fled the scene.

After police arrived they found the suspect unconscious with multiple head injuries. Authorities believe he may have been hit with a rock. The suspect was not carrying any identification.

The case is being investigated as a murder. Acting City CID chief Asst. Comm Khairi Ahrasa said the police have not yet made any arrests.
