A 25-year-old Southern California woman who was kidnapped nearly 10 years ago has been found alive and her accused kidnapper, 41-year-old Isidro Garcia was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, rape and false imprisonment, police said on Wednesday.
At the time of the abduction in 2004, the victim was living in a Santa Ana complex with her family and then-boyfriend Garcia, who had reportedly been sexually abusing her since June that year. After an episode of domestic violence in August 2004, Garcia drugged the then 15-year-old and drove her to a house in Compton, where he gave her fake identification papers and locked her in a garage overnight.
To avoid getting caught, the two worked together at a night time cleaning service. The victim was forced to marry her abductor in 2007, and bore him a child in 2012. After reaching one of her sisters through Facebook, the captive woman contacted the police on Tuesday.
The victim had only been in the country for six months when she was kidnapped from the apartment complex. She was told that her family had given up looking for her, and that they would be deported if she tried to go back to them.
Over the years, the woman tried to escape twice but was caught and beaten on both instances. The couple was reportedly constantly on the move to avoid being found by police.
