On Saturday, May 31, the Taliban returned U.S. Soldier Bowe Bergdahl to the U.S. government following a controversial prisoner exchange deal in which five senior Taliban operatives were released from the Guantanamo Bay detention facility.
Sergeant Bergdahl had been in captivity for five years following his disappearance. The U.S. Defense Department in 2010 stated there was compelling evidence Bergdahl deserted.
