The trauma of the first fatal stabbing spree on Taipei's metro May 21, resulting in four deaths, seems to still be troubling the people of Taiwan. A lady brought a fruit knife onto the train Thursday, creating chaos among the riders.
This 60-year-old woman surnamed Fung from New Taipei city looked innocent, she was surrounded and questioned by a bunch of police. What has she really done?
Thursday morning, Fung took a train northbound from Taoyuan, a north-western county in Taiwan. While waiting on the platform, she pulled out a fruit knife and started peeling mangoes.
After getting on the train, she happily ate her mangoes with knife, ignoring the other passengers who were freaked out by her actions. Fung later went to the washroom to clean her knife. Passengers on board were aghast by her behaviour and called the police.
When the police arrived, the woman couldn't understand why they were making such a big fuss. She was then taken to the police station.
After the subway stabbing spree in Taipei subway, many people have become sensitive to this kind of behaviour. Police later found Fung to have no ill-intentions released her from custody.
