Brazil violence: Shootout at store kills off-duty cop, kids nearly killed

What was meant to be a quick stop at a roadside store for one off-duty cop went very wrong when the he unwittingly stumbled upon an armed robbery in progress and was and was shot dead during a bungled attempt to intervene.
Video from two security cameras at the crime scene showing two suspects, men dressed in hooded sweatshirts, was uploaded to LiveLeak two days after the shooting in Goiânia, central Brazil.
The 49-second film, a composite of clips from two cameras, shows the man and two young boys —described the LiveLeak description as his sons— suddenly realise a crime is in progress. The officer reacts without a thought to the two boys' safety; he open fires on the crooks but they shoot back and he's down.
A man in a grey hoodie is then seen firing several more shots at the man's head. The two boys flee. The shooter then steals the semi-automatic from the corpse before the video ends.
This officer certainly thought he was doing his duty, but his apparent recklessness got him killed and certainly put the children in the line of fire.
