Jealous police cadet Michael Little shoots ex-girlfriend and dies in shootout

A police cadet opened fire on the family of his ex-girlfriend following an argument at the family’s home in Knoxville, Tenessee on Friday night. Michael Little shot his ex, 18-year-old Ashley Womack, her mother, Rhonda Womack, and family friend Travis Wegener, shortly before midnight Friday.
Little went to the Womack residence and had an argument with members of the family on the back porch, including family friend Travis Wegener, who had recently appeared in photos with Ashley on her Facebook page. Little, whose relationship with Ashley ended two weeks earlier apparently couldn’t control his jealousy.
After the argument, Little appeared to return to his car, but then he pulled out a .45 calibre handgun and opened fire on the family from the side of the back deck. Travis Wegener was killed on the spot, while Rhonda Womack was shot in the shoulder.
Little then approached the back patio and shot Ashley Womack in the leg. Meanwhile, her brother, 22 year old Joshua Womack, ran into the house to retrieve a .22 calibre rifle. Joshua then shot Michael Little several times, fatally wounding him.
Ashley Womack was treated for the gunshot wound in her leg and released. Rhonda Womack remains in hospital in critical condition. Knoxville police said Little’s pistol was his own, not department issued, and as a cadet his job only entailed answering phones.
