Walmart shooting: police kill John Crawford III as he shopped for BB gun

On August 5th, the last moments of John Crawford III’s life transpired like this. As he stood in the aisle at Walmart telling his girlfriend about the BB gun he picked up in the toy aisle, his last words were “It’s not real.” Just then, Crawford was shot in the back with no warning whatsoever by Beavercreek police, according to new video evidence shown to his family.
Crawford picked up a BB gun from the toy section while shopping at Walmart. A former Marine, also shopping, called police and reported a black man with an AR-15 assault rifle. The marine told police Crawford, quote, “looked like he was going to go violently.”
Police said Crawford waved a rifle at customers and refused officers orders to put it down. They also released audio of the 911 dispatcher to the public. On the tape the dispatcher can be heard saying “...Walmart, a black male, six foot, wearing a blue shirt, blue pants, in the …section, holding a gun, pointing…”
But the Ohio Attorney General has so far refused to release the new video which shows that Crawford did nothing wrong. His family says the piecemeal release of evidence is designed to shape public opinion in favor of the police after what they say he was their unjustified and militaristic shooting of Crawford.
Crawford’s family want the Federal Justice Department to take over the investigation.
