A Uber driver shot a gunman in Chicago after he saw him opening fire on a crowd of people in the city's Logan Square area.

On Friday night a few minutes after dropping off a passenger, the 47-year-old Uber driver was in his car, watching people walking by, when he spotted a 22-year-old, identified as Everardo Custodio, start shooting a crowd of people.

According to the Chicago Tribune, the driver, who had a licensed gun in his car, grabbed the weapon and shot Custodio several times, injuring him in his shin, thigh and lower back.

When police arrived at the scene they found Custodio bleeding on the ground.
He was taken to the hospital and later charged with aggravated assault and unlawful use of a deadly weapon.

The driver provided documentation of gun ownership to police, according to the Chicago Sun Times, and won't face charges because he acted in self-defense and in the defense of others.

No one else was wounded in the shooting.
