Umbrella Revolution troll? South China Morning Post’s Cliff Buddle attacked at Hong Kong University

An attack on Cliff Buddle, a senior editor at Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post newspaper and honorary lecturer at Hong Kong University left many startled yesterday.
The incident occurred as Buddle was speaking on media law and ethics on Monday. A Mandarin-speaking man suddenly interrupted the class yelling, “It’s been 17 years since Hong Kong returned to China! Teaching should be in Chinese!”
The man then ran on to the front of the class and assaulted Buddle, kicking him in the chest and wounding the lecturer’s hand.
After the assault, the man attempted to flee but was blocked by students until university security officers arrived to detain the man.
It was later confirmed the assailant is not a student at HKU.
Security staff said the attacker claimed to be a 26-year-old student from Beijing’s Tsinghua University.
Cliff Buddle later told the media he was grateful to the students who helped him and detained the attacker and said he was shocked and saddened by the incident.
Police arrested the man and are investigating him for assault.
